3108 Day ‘06!

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

So, it is that time of the year again. The concept of a Blog Day post is to make available to the general public, other blogs that the said blogger might have come upon and thinks that these are worthy of being read by the majority that seems to be unaware of their presence.
Based on this premise, I have been thinking about my choices in these past few weeks. Here they are. (more…)

Vettaiyaadu Vilayadu - Verum Vilayattu

It was a full house last night at the 11:30 pm show (which finally started only at 12:15 am) for Vettaiyaadu Vilayadu here at Edison. Seriously, I have to admit that, for someone with a perverse interest in chewing on people and their extremities 1, Kamal sure has a large contingent of fans.

Kamal’s presence is why this movie will probably do good business, in spite of glaring holes whereever you look. this movie does not boast of a strong Kamal performance. He was merely adequate if you consider other cop movies that he has done in the past, like Kuruthipunal and even Soora Samhaaram, both outstanding movies, not just in comparison. But, Kamal clearly looked the part of the middle aged police officer, ample across the waist, tiredness showing on his lined face. Method acting or disinterest, you can argue either way. (more…)

Five years thence…

…the world has been changed for ever. It has been a long five years. But I am still the same person, I think and I am slowly starting to like where I am.

Arun will probably get this post the moment he sees it, for he was there with me. D.N.A was there too, but like me, his memory is hazy. But for those of you, who aren’t in the know, five years ago, yesterday, I took my first trip on an airplane and flew Sabena from Chennai to Chicago via Brussels.

I don’t even remember which airline I flew from Chicago to Columbus. Age does that to you, you see. Which is why I have preserved the Friday section of The Hindu (chennai edition) that was given to me on the flight that day.

The K-Jo-Khan effect

If there is a movie that I am waiting to watch (Pudhupettai, Pirates-III and Omkara were three recent flicks that fit this profile), I usually stay away from their reviews, and I wholeheartedly advise everyone else to do this too.

But with a K-Jo directed movie, the risk of reading plot-spoiling reviews is almost negligible. You get to know what would happen in every single frame when you hear a whiff of the plot-line from a random sound-byte that K-Jo “tantalizingly” provides while informing us that it would be a [insert random adjective] movie.

WTF!

It’s Saturday and since one has nothing to do now, one sits down to watch inane desi TV programs on public TV that usually carry some variation of the Bollywood entertainment tag. This show features the corniest lines, promos etc. usually featuring the current Bollywood heart attack inducer Himesh Reshamaiyya in some form or the other. In between you get to see promos for gems featuring the likes of Salman Khan, Udita Goswami and assorted has beens and duds.

So five minutes ago, as one such promo started, I was not unduly disturbed. The movie in question is the latest from The Factory - Darwaza Bandh Rakho. Then as the taglines came in, I have to admit, my interest was roused, for I love slapstick comedies and this seemed to be one of those. But the end of the promo left me speechless with a WTF expression on my face.

The funniest movie, ever!

I might be a Thalaivar fan, but like Thalaivar himself, I do have a soft corner for Kamal, esspecially in movies where he does not indulge in “assumption of intellect”. And those are his movies I like best. I consider one of these to be the funniest movie ever. It is on Youtube now - in 26 parts. Watch it from here!
Catch my point?
