Five years thence…

…the world has been changed for ever. It has been a long five years. But I am still the same person, I think and I am slowly starting to like where I am.

Arun will probably get this post the moment he sees it, for he was there with me. D.N.A was there too, but like me, his memory is hazy. But for those of you, who aren’t in the know, five years ago, yesterday, I took my first trip on an airplane and flew Sabena from Chennai to Chicago via Brussels.

I don’t even remember which airline I flew from Chicago to Columbus. Age does that to you, you see. Which is why I have preserved the Friday section of The Hindu (chennai edition) that was given to me on the flight that day.

I was on that very same flight man!! I took Sabena, now defunct, all the way upto Chciago. May be you too. Around 18 of us on our way to Cincinnati.

Ah, it must be a great feeling — recalling momentous events in your life. Your post triggered memories of my own. Except that it wasn’t five years ago, but more like 21 years ago on Aug. 4!

I remember the airline (Pan Am), I remember the good folks (seniors!) who picked me up, I remember the awsome feeling of seeing Pittsburgh’s night-time skyline as we got out of the tunnel for the first time, all the great friendships I made during the following six years …

    Thank you for this post!

Abi: Yes, it is a great feeling. Initially it was not though, as Arun (linked above) mentions in his twin posts. So much has changed. Even the airline I flew in is now defunct. But now it all seems so far out in the past. And yes, thank you for the comment and glad we touched a poignant nerve.

d.n.a: Dude, we were in the same group of 18 on the same flight and we had this conversation a couple of months ago too. Nee ennoda mosam!

    Congratulations on a milestone! :)

    Ack.

You didn’t just happen to go to OU, did you?

  6. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

Raindrop: Who knows? I might just have….:) Do we know each other?

q.s: Danks.. yes.. bitter sweet indeed. Looks like everyone’s experience is the same.

  7. Raindrop http://www.hotshortypartquarantedeux.blogspot.com

It’s unlikely that we know each other, but how the hell did you survive Athens?

  8. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

Raindrop: Well, it all will be clearer once you find out enough to ask the question - How did Athens survive me? Quaint town. I am almost missing it. But I am a simple man, so that might help explaining…

    P.S: Me = ME not You :D

  12. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

Deepa: Right side of the 30s for some. Wrong side of the 20s, according to me. Btw, neenga akkava illa maami-ya? :D

“Which is why I have preserved the Friday section of The Hindu (chennai edition) that was given to me on the flight that day.”

once you hitch your wagon, you will need to hindu (kannada, vb. - use tamilian pronunciation of hindu to say it) your ‘da hindu’ and trash it.

this would definitely date me, but the last leg of my first journey by air was by piedmont airlines. hah!!

    - s.b.

  14. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

s.b: What “hitch the wagon”? I prefer to blaze my own path through the wilderness! You know, the whole “My path is a separate path” logic?

Piedmont Airlines? Canadian? Now I feel the same as anybody who hears the words Sabena Airlines…
