3108 Day ‘06!
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
So, it is that time of the year again. The concept of a Blog Day post is to make available to the general public, other blogs that the said blogger might have come upon and thinks that these are worthy of being read by the majority that seems to be unaware of their presence.
Based on this premise, I have been thinking about my choices in these past few weeks. Here they are.
Terri the Terrific: Shoefy actually pipped me to the post by putting Terri on a similar pedestal earlier today. However, since we have been granted permission to stoke the imperial ego any which way we want, we shall continue. In her his own un-imitable way, Terri the Terrific, Royal Canine and Charmer Extraordinaire, muses on his life and his humans. In the past year since we landed on his turf, while in search of answers to some existential questions, we have grown to be a loyal reader, silent mostly, in awe of his pithiness. Though he says that he is mainly poking fun at his humans (i.e., the Royal couple, their royal children, Prince Anu, Princess Kuki and the Queen mother who sometimes pitches in with some fundaes of her own), they are actually very endearing. The descriptions of his daily life probably make the babes go “awwwww”. As for us, we smile at this very thought and eagerly wait for his next post.
Ramesh Mahadevan: After a few years spent in the back - alleys of the World Wide Web, the man single handedly responsible for building up the reputation of the desi grad student to the mythical proportions that has risen to, is back in the mainstream. The SCI icon, whose absence made older netizen reminisce fondly about “those days”, needs no introduction. If you are a Gen Y netizen who is looking on blankly, the place to go is the search page for the archives of Google Groups. Google recently has made available 20 years worth of old news group archives and a simple search for “Ramesh Mahadevan†will introduce you to the world of Ajay Palvayanteeswaran, and his strange adventures. Read those and watch Ramesh’s blog for more.
War for News: In a short span of just eight months, the trio of All Seeing Spy, Watchful Acolyte and Artemis Zoop have built up a reputation that has established War for News as worthy successors (arguably) to the likes of Mediaah. Sure, the posts and their comments do seem to border on gossip and slander at times, but this trio of anonymous bloggers has built up a steady following among readers interested in knowing what goes on in the newsrooms once the “On Air†lights go off. They bring to their readers tales of intrigue, backstabbing and debauchery that mostly shock the casual reader who would never have thought these things possible in the Indian media. Seemingly confidential memos seem to appear out of nowhere leading to theories that these are bloggers who are familiar with what they write about. Tales of witch-hunts to smoke them out abound too. This means that every extended absence which they explain away as field trips common in the life of journalists is speculated as the final absence. Recently, there have been murmurings of the blog moving to its own domain, which would mean that War for News is here to stay.
And yes, PutVote.com. Go there and telling whatwhat blogs you liking. Junta voting and computer counting and putting top posts on top. A verbose description will not serve the purpose of what is the most simplest of concepts. Another recent find. So if you like something, even this post or the one before this on this very blog, go there and put vote. Me liking!
So these are some of the blogs that have caught my attention this past year. But there have also been blogs that have dropped off our radar, because the bloggers either seem to have stopped completely or are on extended breaks. Tilo, Guru and Hemanth - This is for you. Come back guys. And come back soon! And Witchy, I am adding you as an afterthought only, because I know your fingertips are itching to hit the keyboard in any case! ![]()

September 1st, 2006 at 10:04 amanantha, awwwwww! I’m so glad I bring joy to somebody’s life. A slight correction, though, about my sex. I might come across as going both ways, but, technically, I was born male. Hence, the need to ejaculate at times (mostly at a mental level).
