5 Reasons why I choose “Studio 60..” over part of Monday Night Football

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

* Aaron Sorkin

* I am still hung over after the final season of The West Wing

* I digg Saturday Night Live

* Matthew Perry / Bradley Whitford, among others who are West Wing alums.

* Lines like the ones below that seem so relevant, much like the West Wing plots.

Danny Trip: They want to see you take fewer whacks at Bush and looks like they are getting their wish. So you throw it out.

Matt Albie: … ….

Danny Trip: … …

Matt Albie: Four years later and by the way, I’d be happy to take potshots at the Democrats, if one of them would say or do something..

and monologues like this.

Update: In case you are wondering what Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is all about, NBC has made available the complete third episode (from last night) here.

  1. Bala Subra http://gilli.in

you need a dual tuner DVR to watch both

  2. DoZ http://booksmovieslife.wordpress.com

Agree with everything you say. But I hear from friends that many folks apparently find the show too technical / complex… I’m now terrified that after a few weeks they’ll cancel it…

  3. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

DoZ: Yes, your friends are right. Sometimes it seems too technical and complex, but West Wing was that in most ways. In fact I looked at the forums discussing the show and the chatter there was erriely similar to the plotline of yesterday’s episode where the Matt Perry and Brad Whitford duo worry about keeping their ratings up and how audience interest dropped off after the first half hour!
But you know what, NBC has bought 13 episodes. So we are safe for the season. However it is evident that the East Coast slotting (i.e same time as MNF) sucks and everyone and their pet dog knows that MNF is better beer and nuts material than the sight of Bradley Whitford and Matt Perry pondering about the homo-erotic imagery provided by their physical scuffle!

Bala: We go with cable. But come World Cup season, we might have to invest in a dish and a DVR

appadi ondram illaya…Why did you close comments on the other posst?

  5. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

Tilo: Cool. One nimit, I was worried. As for the other post, that was not to solicit comments, but to humbly thank that person (dunno who that was). Besides if I open comments there, some “nalam virumbis” (i.e. do gooders) will hijack it for vested purposes :D

My only gripe is it comes across as TV world “West Wing”. Good in some sense, not so good in others. Liked stuffs that are bread and butter for me, like focus groups and sampling bias. Only difference is Allison Jenney (C.J.) replaced with Amanda Peet.

  7. nandhu http://phoenixflicks.blogspot.com

i need a little intro. what or who are these two names in the titles?

  8. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

Nandhu Saar: Point taken. Have updated the title and the post has some awesome links now. I almost liveblogged this last night, hence the incompleteness. The quotes are now verbatim too, thanks to the video I found on NBC’s site. “Studio 60…” is a show about the production of a TV show (called Friday Night from Hollywood) that is obviously a take-off on the Lorne Michaels helmed Saturday Night Live. And MNF is Monday Night Football, the primetime Monday live show featuring the best matchup from that week’s NFL games.

D.N.A: I see what you mean. But I loved the almost neurotic feel that the West Wing had. And this is a similar show that will appeal to the intelligent 25+ demographic that were also West Wing aficionados.

  9. capriciously_me

hey btw, did ya see heroes???

  10. capriciously_me

and who is this intelligent 25+ you were talking abt?

  11. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

CM: I am talking about a demographic here. Why do you want names? And yes, I saw Heros, but for some reason, I think it will go down like that show from last season, Numbers, I think it was called. Science does not sell in America, but sex, controversy and politics do. That fact has been honed into a science by itself.

  12. capriciously_me

superstar, somewhere bfore u had mentioned that u liked west wing a lot and then u later contradicted that stmt by saying that it appealed to INTELLIGENT 25+…adhaan…me asked names for clarity :P

  13. VC http://poop-v2.blogspot.com

Thanks for the info & the links. Managed to watch the 3rd episode. Pretty intriguing. But may run out of steam.

  14. Balaji http://bbthots.blogspot.com

too bad its on at the same time as ‘CSI:Miami’ :). But I am hooked on ‘Heroes’…

  15. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

BB: I saw the pilot again last night at 11pm ET on USA. There is a chance that Bravo might do reruns too. I will be looking out in the next few weeks to see if this is a regular instance and then I can concentrate of Monday Night Football.

VC: True, am on a wait and watch.

CM: Demographics is a statistical term. It is not made of one person. No point in naming people.

  16. SKM http://preciousbeing.blogspot.com

mmm…I don’t watch TV,so no clue and no interest.
Iam sorry.summa how are you nu yetti pakka vandhen.
    Nothing special.–SKM

  17. GHE http://www.ujvalgandhi

aah, the fun and excitement of watching Monday Night Live !! Favre’s last season, McNabb as the new Favre……….

  18. superstarksa http://superstarksa.com

GHE: I think McNabb will be greater than Favre, more because he is not exactly a “shoot em up” QB. McNabb can hold the ball back till his intended receiver is open. And this year, I have seen more feints/ball hiding from him to get out of the pocket than the past two years!

SKM: I am doing good, thank you :) And when that sundal parcel coming this side?
