Re-discovering Iruvar

To commemorate 75 years since the release of the first Tamil talkie, Baradwaj Rangan revisits one of his older posts about Iruvar - a movie that in addition to being a biopic about two Tamil politicians (you can see a nice frame by frame scene breakdown here) also gives one a background about how Tamil film industry functioned from the ’30s to the ’70s.
Related to this post, I have to give a belated “shout-out” to mah homie Ramanand who has been dissecting the soundtrack of Iruvar with a three part introduction (starting here and continuing links on bottom of each part) to the score. He intends to follow the post up with posts about each of the tracks in the album (the first of which, about Narumugaye, can be accessed through a link at the end of the introductions). It will be a joy to read for any TFM music fan since he has a set of related links on the bottom of each post.
