The one and only Dhammerigo Vesupucci is in town. Actually he is passing through town in a voyage full of “touristic discoveries” and some good old fashioned physical exertion thrown in for good measure. Having known Dhammo from the old Shanmugha - Festember - REC(T) - “culturals” days, one was compelled to meet up with the man during his Garden State sourjourn this past week. And it turned out to be a fruitful meetup.

Crazy fun it was, though after sometime, a full stomach meant that I probably could not have chuckled without retching. And that was quite a struggle considering the mirth that is involved everytime the D-man seems to be in the room. One also got to meet a few other of his pals from REC(Trichy), at least one of whom I know by sight/name. Yup, M, I did recognize you.

After dinner at a seemingly overpriced Mexican eatery up at Hoboken, we retired back to Dhammo’s temporary abode where one confessed something that has been pricking one’s conscience for years now. And then one thing led to the other and Dhammo threw up a “what if” in relation to the quizzing scene in NY/NJ.

And the industrious person that he is, Dhammo has taken the initiative to email Quiznet, the premier mailing list for Indian quizzers and included yours truly as one of the primary contacts. The specifics of the email are as follows:

* The email is to gauge interest in the setting up of a club in NY/NJ a la KQA/QFI style where-in we could have a gathering of people once a onth or so, on weekends and have fun.

* The first event could be on the 5th of May.

* A group of us are ready with a few questions to kick-start the first vent.

* Depending on the no. of people who respond to this mail, e could identify a venue and meet up.

* Help is needed getting said venue to accomodate say, 2 dozen people (less or more, depending on responses).

And by consensus it has been decided that Dhammo shall be our Patron, a la Richie Benaud (OBE) at Sarasota! Now the next thing is to convince him to go to Battery Park and get his cartoon pencil sketch done so that we can hang it up in the room that we meet. Heh!

So, all you quizzards in the NY/NJ area, please e-mail me before the 1^st of May. Alternatively you can leave a comment either here or at Dhammo’s. And if you know someone at Rutgers/NJIT/NYU/Columbia who would be interested, please let them know too. And mebbe we can get something regular going.
